You may find yourself landing at a few airstrips before your time to alight comes along.

The airstrip that’ll best serve your needs will be advised by the accommodations you have booked. When booking your ticket to the Serengeti, you’ll be able to identify which strip you need the aircraft to land at.

How Can I Get There?

The roads that lead to the airstrip are all dirt, the best way to get there is to fly by air to the strip from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport. Flight time is around 1.5 hours depending on the number of stops the aircraft makes until your stop. If you want to drive and not fly the easiest way you can take is from Arusha, it will take you about 8 hours in order to get to the middle of the park.

What About Parking Fees and Cars?

If you have been on a self-drive safari and have planned to fly out of the park as opposed to drive out, you would need to arrange this with the company from whom you hired your vehicle. It is not usual to leave vehicles unattended at any of the airstrips.

What About Hotels and Transfers?

The various airstrips’ locations were determined by the nearby accommodations and hotels and to be able to deliver safari goers as close as practicably possible to their camp / lodge / hotel. Your booked accommodation owner will know your arrival / departure time and will ensure that transport is laid on.

What About Amenities at the Airport?

These ‘airports’ are usually gravel or grass landing strips in the bush with no facilities. No ATMs, no car hire, no travel desks. It is vital that before flying into the National Park one has booked one’s accommodations and is thereby able to book to the nearest advised airstrip.
